Moving Closer to Family? These Conversations Can Help!

Perhaps you have the desire to move closer to your family but have some hesitation.  It’s possible that the family has hesitation also as they consider the blessings and trials that might come with the move.  Often, people’s expectations get in the way and cause friction until everyone figures out how to live life in closer proximity.

There was a recent article, written by SRES that gives us some good talking points when making the consideration.  Having open and honest communication about that move will hep both parties understand ideals, dreams and expectations.  Even after having the conversations, reality might look differently but these discussions can help identify the needs and wants of others.

Here are some of the questions they suggested talking about:

  1. Do you want your family to help you make new social connections?

  2. Do you need someone to help you when you are ill?

  3. How often would you like to see each other?

  4. What kind of support do you want or need?

  5. Are you open to family members dropping by unannounced?

  6. Do you plan on sharing keys or garage codes?

  7. How long is an ideal visit?

  8. What are your concerns about moving closer?

Hopefully these questions spark good and helpful communication when planning on moving closer to family.  We, at the Forsythe Group, firmly believe that communication is key to successful relationships!
