The National Association of Realtors (NAR) just published a new article about maintaining your home as an asset. While this article is rather technical, it does provide good advice on how to to keep your home in good order even as you manage other assets in your financial portfolio.
More than anything, maintaining your home through regular repairs and maintenance helps prevent larger issues that come up in the future. While renovations help increase the value of your home, cleanliness is almost just as important. You will not see a dollar value on cleanliness, but buyers know that a home is cared for and maintained when a house is clean.
Working with an agents, like the Forsythe Group, will help you monitor your asset. You never know when you might need to downsize or shift your style of living and having a real estate expert monitor that asset will only help you when that time comes.
And most of all, keep track of any improvements, updates or maintenance you perform on your home. Those receipts show your pride of ownership to any potentional buyers.
